About Me
Word Nerd and Gadabout
I'm an unashamed word junkie. I love editing (yes, seriously). I've worked as an editor, writer, and translator for 30 years <cough>. Check out my LinkedIn page for more on my professional experience (and feel free to add me to your network!).
I went to 12 elementary schools on 3 different continents (hence all those Englishes). I'm trying to see as many places in the world as I can.
I've had a thing for typewriters for a very long time. (See pic to the right; not sure what 10-year-old me was working on, or whether there was actually paper in that typewriter.)
I hold a Master's degree in Translation and Interpreting from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. I've passed the Editors Canada Copyediting, Proofreading, Stylistic, and Structural certification exams to snag the Certified Professional Editor designation, and despite being quite terrible at science, I'm a Certified Board Editor in the Life Sciences (BELS).
I enjoy stringing my own words together, too: I've written 4 novels that I'll own up to (with a couple more permanently banished to the back of a drawer) and numerous short stories. I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia and am represented by Rob Firing of the Transatlantic Agency.
I read pretty much anything, but I have a special soft spot for romance, fantasy, anything to do with mountains or baseball -- just give me characters to root for and a world I can get lost in!
